Lollipop Product Design: Shape, Flavor and Presentation

How format, piece size and presentation work together in a lollipop program.

20 SEP 2016 · Fly Foods

Lollipops can range from simple everyday formats to colorful novelty products. A clear brief should connect the intended consumer, sales channel and target price with practical decisions about shape, flavor and packaging.

Define the product format

Specify approximate piece weight, candy diameter or shape, stick length and whether the product is single-flavor, layered or filled. These choices affect eating time, presentation and pack configuration.

Plan flavors and colors as a range

A balanced assortment should be easy for buyers and consumers to understand. Confirm whether colors identify flavors, how many varieties belong in each pack and whether the mix should be fixed or random.

Choose the right presentation

Single wraps, display boxes, bags and tubs support different retail situations. Packaging should protect the candy and stick while keeping the flavor and product shape easy to identify.
